The Ineffable Mask

by Yohanes Kabes

Dancing alone on shards of glass,

running barefoot along the gravel roads.

They drag me across the endless desert,

with Ten of Swords drives into my back

How Could you know,

   all the suffering I bleed?

Imprisoned atop the famished desert,

skulls strew around me in every direction.

Hot sand drinks the tears at my eyes edge,

it drinks my blood with ravenous thirst.

How could you see,

with the depth of your soul?

Trapped in the cage of illusion,

they devour your soul in the darkness.

They bury you in the valley of death,

to sever your path to the higher self.

How could you perceive,

With the depth of your soul?

While my blood and tears had died

     before they touched you.

The fragrance of my burning flesh vanished,

             swept away by the wind.

I refuse to drink

from the counterfeit tears you give,

The one offered me food,

all while sucking my blood from my veins

Open your eyes,

          and see clearly.

Every beautiful painting was crafted from my blood,

brutality in every brushstroke upon my wounds.

They work tirelessly, burying a diamond,

          stealing its light for tomorrow.
