by Yohanes Kabes
I surrender to love —
lead me astray into the mists of Scotland,
where longing celebrates its quiet triumph in solitude.Let me hide within that fog,
to build a world of two,
after fleeing the restless heartbeat of London. The black and white of the piano
have learned new shades of melody,
ascending and falling like waves of forgiveness.
I long to fill the empty space beside you —
by that piano that no longer speaks
in monochrome.I want to taste the stillness of my soul’s growth,
after graduating from all the lessons
Oxford could offer the spirit.
I know you wait for me
at the harbor of Hull —
where every journey folds itself back into silence,
and the heart finds its shore.Bring me home.
I have wandered too long
through the narrow, spellbound streets of York,
chasing illusions of love
that led me away from destiny.I have pursued the light of Brighton —
a brightness that pleases the eyes
but leaves the soul unfed.
Take me to Birmingham,
where the delayed of beautiful taste
finally dance in one rhythm,
within a silence that knows its meaning.I want to witness the most beautiful sight of my life —
you, writing the lyrics of our story,
and playing them softly upon that piano.
I want to feed you little bites of sweetness
as we shape the outlines of our tales —
stories the children of the Universe will one day cherish.Let me hold your hand,
trace the silver through your hair,
and sit with you among the literary festivals of Edinburgh —
watching our children recite the poems and novels
woven from the long pilgrimage
of our entwined souls,
and sing once more the songs
you once wrote about us.
Yohanes Kabes, S.S (B.A. in English Literature) is a Melanesian writer, novelist, and poet. His writings and articles focus on themes of spirituality and the inner journey of the human soul — the awakening of consciousness. He also analyzes literary works through psychological and spiritual perspectives, believing that life itself is the philosophy of the universe. In his novels, Kabes often explores the realms of horror, thriller, and mystery. He is also the first to design fashion pieces inspired by his own poetry.
